OpenBuildings™ Station Designer Help

Add and manipulate floors

  1. Select the Building object on the Project Tree, and right click.

    A pop-up menu appears.

  2. Select Add new floor from the pop-up menu.

The Add floor dialog box opens.

Tip: Selecting Add new floor from the pop-up menu is equivalent to selecting the New tool on the Ribbon home tab’s Floors tool group.

  3. Define the new floor by referencing a floor plan drawing. If the referenced drawing is a DGN file, select the DGN model to reference from the available drop-down list. Referenced floor plans are used as guides for tracing room boundaries, thus defining the rooms on the floor.

When the Add floor dialog box is dismissed, the new floor is created, and appears on the Project Treehierarchically situated under the Building object as Floor: [floor name] .

Tip: Once the floor is defined, you can use the room modeling tools found on the Ribbon home tab’s Rooms and Embedded Surfaces tool groups. For more information, refer to the detailed tool settings descriptions and procedure in the New (floor) tool help topic.

  4. Repeat the previous step for additional floors.

Additional floors’ Level attribute automatically increment based on the default room height.

  5. On the Project Tree, select the new Floor object, right click, and select Show floor only.

All floors except the selected floor are hidden, and the floor object on the Project Tree is displayed with bold text. This allows you to view the floor without having other floor graphics (including their referenced drawings) visible.

  6. On the Project Tree, select the new Floor object again, right click, and select Active.

This allows you to model rooms one the selected floor only.

  7. On the Project Tree, select the active Floor object, right click, and select Replace drawing.

The Add floor dialog box opens, and you can change the referenced DGN file and model.
